WHAT ARE MUTUAL FUNDS IN ROMANIA?
Mutual funds are open-ended investment funds with the aim of using the financial resources of several investors to buy bonds, shares, short-term government securities or other types of assets.
Mutual funds are managed and intermediated by investment management companies, known by the abbreviation SAI, which are authorized under the conditions laid down by law by the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).
The activity of investment management companies consists in taking decisions following a market research process. Thus, all these funds are managed by a specialized body that has the necessary expertise to make low-risk investments with the potential to maximize the dividends to investors.
As such, a mutual fund is the holding of a portfolio of investments financially backed by a collective contribution from several investors. Whenever an individual wishes to buy shares in such a mutual fund, he or she becomes the owner of a proportionate fraction of the fund.
The advantages of investing in mutual funds are that:
- The funds provide the investor with several types of financial instruments (this refers to all assets that can be subject to trading);
- Money earned through mutual funds can be withdrawn at any time;
- Regardless of the amounts invested in mutual funds, investors have both rights and obligations;
- Mutual funds are very easy to trade, as they are highly liquid (liquidity implies the ability of an asset to be turned into money in a short time);
- The funds are managed by financial professionals who are in charge of their efficient administration.
MUTUAL FUND PERFORMANCE IN ROMANIA
In short, a return is the amount of money that results from a realized investment. The return generated by mutual funds can often differ from case to case, depending on the annual fees payable, the expense ratio and the commissions charged.
Depending on how the investment is made, there are:
- Stock mutual funds
These mutual funds carry the highest risk, but also the highest return. Since prices fluctuate on the stock market, the return can be very easily influenced.
- Money mutual funds
Money market funds are mainly for people who do not want to take too much risk with their money. They have the lowest returns because they do not involve high risks.
Most of the time, these money market funds are issued by national governments or certain financial corporations. So in this case the return depends largely on the interest rates in the country concerned.
- Balanced funds
Balanced funds involve investing in shares, bonds and securities. Balanced funds are also called asset allocation funds or hybrid funds because they involve investing in a pool of other mutual funds.
FIXED HORIZON MUTUAL FUNDS IN ROMANIA
Fixed-horizon mutual funds are investment vehicles with a predefined time frame and a dynamic asset allocation strategy, designed to maximize long-term returns.
In the initial investment phase, these funds typically carry a higher risk/return profile, allowing investors greater exposure to equities. However, as the target date approaches, the fund gradually shifts towards lower-risk, lower-return assets to enhance predictability and minimize investment risks. Romania lawyers can provide valuable legal insights on the regulatory aspects of such funds, ensuring compliance with financial laws and investor protection regulations.
